Make Your Voice Heard!

Like many jobs in my life, being a poll worker started off as a seasonal position. My first time as a poll worker was in November 2008 for the presidential election. I went through a short training and was thrown into a work environment where I was working with complete strangers. The one day of work was from 6am to 9pm (or until the last voter left!). I was a little overwhelmed at first but the day went by surprisingly fast! I also had a great time getting to know my co-workers despite not thinking I had much in common with them at first. ~Does any of this sound familiar to my LCF fam?~

The following election cycle I was assigned as a Polling Site Supervisor. It was my first official role as a Supervisor, and I was super nervous! I had no idea the amount of prep work that was required for the role. I had to undergo additional training, pick up a trunk load of supplies that included empty ballot boxes, and I had to physically visit the polling location to determine the best way to set it up for election day. In addition to that, I had to call my assigned poll workers ahead of time to introduce myself and review some important details and reminders for election day. I think that I can say with certainty that this position best prepared me for working at Leader Creek.

Since then I’ve been a polling site supervisor several times for the general and primary elections in my county. I never thought I would still be involved more than 10 years since first starting as a poll worker!

This opportunity has allowed me to be involved with my community.  It’s an important way for me to feel connected since I find myself away from home for so many months at a time.

Similar to the changes at LCF this year, voting is going to look a little different from past years. I’ll be wearing a face mask + face shield and even though you won’t be able to see it- I’ll still have a smile on my face.

Hope to see y’all at the polls!
